Learn the basics of how to make yarn.
This session is for 2 people for a total of 2 hours but options for 3 or 4 hours with more fiber information and practicing time are available.
We will relax, have fun, laugh at ourselves and hopefully be able to figure it all out.
Why 2 people? – We believe that learning is more fun and more effective with a buddy.
We have 2 Ashford Traditional and one Ashford Traveler wheel that we will use.
The goal is to introduce you to the basics of spinning and help you maneuver through some of the early parts of the learning curve.
Feel free to bring your own wheel and your instructor will attempt to help you become friends with your wheel.
What is the experience?
You will learn how your wheel operates and the basics of how yarn is made. You will get hands-on practice coordinating your treadling with the fiber uptake.
You will begin to understand what makes a “good” yarn.
You will get a chance to practice, practice, and practice with your instructor there to help figure out anything that comes up.
I (your instructor) will do my best to patiently work with you and coach you through some of the early steps of the yarn learning curve.
Once you purchase the class you can contact the farm with your receipt number to schedule the course.
About your instructor:
The course will be taught at Sundrop Alpacas by the farm owner, Stephanie Block.
Your instructor is self-taught though the remarkable tool of YouTube. She has won several first places at the National Alpaca Show for her yarns, but they were always the only yarns in the class.
Stephanie can make fiber hold together and turn into a perfectly useable yarn, but is by no means an expert spinner or professionally trained in any way.
We have a Keurig machine, a microwave and a fridge, so feel free to bring your snacks.
