Introduction to spinning

Learn the basics of how to make yarn.

This session is for 2 people for a total of 2 hours.

We will relax, have fun, laugh at ourselves and hopefully be able to figure it all out.

Why 2 people?  – We believe that learning is more fun and more effective with a buddy.

We have 2 Ashford Traditional and one Ashford Traveler wheel that we will use. All are Scotch tension wheels.

The goal is to introduce you to the basics of spinning and help you maneuver through some of the early parts of the learning curve.

Feel free to bring your own wheel and your instructor will attempt to help you become friends with your wheel.

You will learn how a wheel operates and the basics of how yarn is made. You will get hands-on practice coordinating your treadling with the fiber uptake.

The course will be taught at Sundrop Alpacas by the farm owner, Stephanie Block.

Your instructor is self-taught though the remarkable tool of YouTube. She has won first place at the National Alpaca Show for my yarns, but they were the only yarns in the class.

Stephanie can make fiber hold together and turn into a perfectly useable yarn, but is by no means an expert spinner or professionally trained in any way.
